One of my clients, The College Football Hall of Fame, in Atlanta, which opened in 2014, uses RFID ticketing, which both triggers interactives, and 'count' visitors in various areas, via sensors installed throughout and connected to an internal system. This 'building RFID' allows them to know where there are crowds, to measure peak visitation, etc.
Mike Bilbow there may be able to speak with you to explain more about it, and how it has been working.

Subject: Use of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) for ticketing
Dear Colleagues,
Do you know of any museum that is using radio-frequency identification to track the precise location of a visitor? This would be a special bracelet with embedded technology which would provide real-time data about the movements of visitors. It would replace a bar-code imprint that simply records when a visitor enters a site or specially ticketed exhibition, for example.
Thank you.
