Dumbarton House is proud to present a free series funded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, entitled "Historic House Museums Respond to Crisis," featuring six speakers addressing how historic house museums are responding to the urgent needs created by climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and social justice movements. There are an estimated 15,000 historic house museums in the United States. Stereotypically small, sleepy institutions that never change their period rooms, the accomplishments of historic house museums can be easily overlooked. However, house museums around the country are perfectly positioned to be agile responders to community needs and those of us who work at them know there are exciting projects underway at so many of these smaller institutions. From June 24 to September 2, we'll be hearing from a new speaker every two weeks about some of these endeavors. This series is meant for museum professionals and the general public, so please feel free to share widely!
