Thank you all for your responses. BUT except for the Slater activity, all of the airports referenced are large city airports like St. Louis, Denver, San Francisco, etc. The most important point I wanted to make is that the smaller regional airports should not be overlooked by artists or museums. Again, Fort Smith Regional Airport hosts 86,000 enplanements per year plus people dropping off or picking up passengers. My show which is located adjacent to the airport security checkpoint is up for four months including over Thanksgiving and Xmas holidays, meaning that 30,000 people will pass through the exhibition. How many small or middle sized museums or galleries can say that they get 30,000 visitors in a four month period?

Has anyone else had experience with an airport as a community outreach venue? It occurred to me In the process of installing an exhibition of my own paintings, Dep(art)ing Passengers, for four months at the Fort Smith Regional Airport, Fort Smith, Arkansas., that airports are perhaps an overlooked venue for art museum community outreach. Fort Smith as a city has a population of 88,133 (2016) yet the airport has an annual enplanement of 89,582 (2017) plus an unknown but large number of people who drop off and pick up passengers. 30,000 people in a four month period is more foot traffic than many museums (art and otherwise) experience in comparable sized cities. What experiences have museums had with airports as a venue?
