Thanks to everyone who participated in the National Museum of Women in the Arts' #5WomenArtists social media campaign!

We are thrilled to share with this year’s information with you:

    • The #5WomenArtists campaign won a 2017 American Alliance of Museums MUSE Award!
    • This short, fun video with “Frida Kahlo” helped explain the need for the #5WomenArtists campaign and was watched almost 800 times.
    • Nearly 11,000 individuals and organizations joined the campaign.
    • Organizations and individuals posted more than 4,500 Instagram posts, an increase of 103% over last year.
    • The hashtag was used nearly 18,000 times on Twitter.
    • At least 82 individuals and cultural organizations created their own blog posts.
    • We launched a BuzzFeed quiz, “Which Of These 5 Women Artists Are You? (Part Two)” and nearly 500 people viewed the quiz and many posted their results.

Please continue to share information about women artists all year round!
Here at the museum, we say that we never stop celebrating Women’s History Month, and we would love for you to join us in promoting gender equity in the arts all year long.

    Thanks again,
    Amy

Hello! I wanted to thank the NMWA for developing this fantastic campaign. The Newark Museum participated in it all month, highlighting women artists in our collection, and we also developed a #5WomenArtists bingo game that used a card with thumbnails to guide people through the collection. Before participants started the game, we quizzed them on whether they could name 5 women artists - very few could! Georgia O'Keeffe and Frida Kahlo were most frequently named. After visiting the galleries, they were reminded of, or learned of, a few more. The campaign was a great awareness-raising and teaching tool. Thanks - and looking forward to next year!
