Do house museums that are not state or federal sites have American (or state) flags displayed on their properties? Why or why not?

    Clinton,

Yes, the Air Zoo flies the US, Michigan, and Air Zoo logo flags in front of our building. Our collection includes many military aircraft and our founders were World War II veterans. It was important to them that those flags be flown on our grounds.

I think the question is what's true to the house's history. If it's a historic house that displayed the flag when it was in use as a private residence then the flag is part of the structure's history and could be displayed. If the house's inhabitants didn't display the flag on a normal basis then I don't think you should add it because it's a form of interpretation. So some research might answer your question. Archival photos might indicate whether the flag was displayed only on holidays such as the 4th of July or all the time or not at all.

    Thanks for your question.
