  • 1.  Qualitative Assessment Strategies

    Hello all,

    We are looking into ways to expand our assessment strategies. We currently count heads, take surveys, collect verbal feedback, and engagement with certain hands-on materials. However, we are looking for ways to assess the qualitative value of our programs.

     

    I'm in search of articles, resources, or ideas/suggestions that help assess the meat of a program, beyond the numbers. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Casey!

    First, I would suggest reaching out to your sociology department and whoever does the Quant/Qual courses at your university. This would be an excellent semester project/internship/independent study for a senior or grad student.

    Here are some sources I like and used recently for a client project to evaluate a specific tour experience but I've used Wieler and Ham for a number different things - I reached out to the authors for permission to use their instrument (I tend toward quant, so these references are biased in that direction a bit)

    ​You have wonderful access as part of OSU to its School of Hospitality and Tourism. I would encourage you to give them a call and ask that question as the assessment of tourism and hospitality experiences is a key part of an industry that depends of customer satisfaction. My own text on the topic has a chapter devoted to this topic. I also ran a Google Scholar search on measuring customer experience and saw as one example the following:
