The Smithsonian Provenance Research Initiative (SPRI) and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, SPK) are pleased to announce the launch of the German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program (PREP) for Museum Professionals. Our partners in this project are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles; the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections); the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich; and the Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste (German Center for Lost Art).

PREP is the first systematic, international exchange program for art museum professionals (curators, collections management staff, provenance researchers, archivists, lawyers, and specialists in digital humanities) and graduate students who focus on World War II-era provenance projects. Each year a cohort of ten German and ten American participants will attend two week-long Exchanges to share their areas of expertise, to explore research resources and methodologies, and to create a collaborative network of provenance research professionals. In 2017, PREP participants will be hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (February 5-10) and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin (September 24-29).

Please feel free to contact provenance@si.edu or PREP@hv.spk-berlin.de with any questions about PREP or the application process. Applications will be accepted until November 18, 2016.
