Looking for a full time museum professional to join our presentation titled:  Sustainability for Collections Storage: Strategies for our Future.  Committed speakers include an architect, preservation specialist and archivist who all specialize in collections storage.  I've included the long version of the session description.  Please contact Michele Pacifico at martinpacifico@comcast.net if you are interested.  We need to submit by Friday.  Many thanks.

Sustainability for Collections Storage: Strategies for our Future

Museums want and should be better stewards of the environment. As we become more and more aware of the realities of the costs and energy implications for collections storage and preservation, institutions are reevaluating their facilities, collections storage, and operations to create sustainable building programs. This session will discuss collections-specific green building strategies that include review of the building site and architecture, the environmental control systems, electronics, lighting, and waste. Using case studies, the speakers will present innovative and practical measures that reduce a museum's carbon footprint while still respecting the critical goal to preserve our collections. Cutting edge preservation metrics, cost benefits analyses, interdisciplinary processes, and climate change issues will be reviewed and discussed. Implementing sustainable practices and policies in our institutions is challenging, but the first step is identifying the best options and knowing how to arrive at the best sustainable solutions for museum storage and the collections.
