Not sure if anyone else has this issue and perhaps opportunity.  Our museum is open 9:30-5:30 and very busy 11-3.  Have any of you successfully added visitation in the afternoons w/ programming and/or a reduced entry price?

    Melissa,

I know a bunch of museums that have successfuly added "visitation" in the afternoons with distance learning programming (for people in other time zones).  It's not on-site visitation, but you are still interacting with the public and getting your collections out there. One of my colleagues raves about the Skype in the Classroom program (free) as having doubled her programming reach.

Neat idea Claudia. As often as children and teens focus on their electronic devices, this could help provide more engagement.

We originally opened our new exhibition hall in February 2007.  We had a DaVinci exhibit for the first 6 months. and we were open 7 days a week.  After  DaVinci left, our hours were 9 AM to 5 PM Tues thru Sat and 10 AM to 5 PM on Sundays.  we closed on Mondays.  Based on attendance counts and surveys, we changed our open hours in 2014.  From April 1 to October 31 our hours are 10 AM to 5 PM, Tues thru Sunday.  From November 1 thru March 31, hours are 10 AM to 4 PM, Tues thru Sun.  We still close on Mondays.  We are also closed on New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

There are a couple of other days that we close just before our two major fundraising events.  The exact days are posted locally and on our website.
