Traveling Exhibit Cases

    Dear collective wisdom,

I am looking for experienced museum carpenters to construct a set of 6 traveling exhibition cases for our Brooklyn museum. The cases need to be light, durable, have a locking feature, and a plexi-glass vitrine. I am having trouble finding vendors. I would like to know if you have any recommendations for vendors in the NY, NJ, PA areas?   I appreciate your help, Megan

    Hi Megan,

Are you looking for road cases that object display cases and vitrines will pack into for shipping or the actual object display cases? Let me know which you are looking for and I can direct you to companies that have made each for our museum.

    Good afternoon,

I would say that we're ideally looking for both--the actual cases as well as crates or something that they can travel in. Any recommendations you have are welcome!

    All the best,

    Megan

    Megan,

Calzone/Anvil Cases make some nice road cases, they have made some for our traveling exhibit as well as for some other traveling exhibits out there. They are located in Bridgeport, CT  , Calzone Case Company | Custom Calzone Flight, ATA, Road, Rackmount Cases and more. You can contact Don Sessions ,203-352-6904. For display cases we have used Art Guild Inc. , Trade Shows, Events, Museum Exhibits, Retail Displays by Art Guild , and Maltbie, Maltbie - A Kubik Company, both make nice products.

For what it's worth, I've got an Anvil case (for a musical instrument) from 1987, and it's still holding up well.  They make ATA rated cases that are known for reliability throughout the music and live sound sector.

    Megan,

I second the recommendation of R. H. Guest in Brooklyn for the display furniture itself. They do wonderful work, all around.

Most usually, display furniture is blanket-wrapped rather than crated. A good moving supply company in the NYC area can produce fitted (slip-over) wraps for you, one such being Movers Supply House in the Bronx.

Hadley Exhibits in Buffalo makes nice cases.  Great Lakes is north of the border in Ontario, but they also do nice work, and are very easy to work with.

I also recommend Hadley Exhibits in Buffalo. Ask for Paul Warner or Mike Dann. They are great to work with and produce a high quality product for a competitive price. They also build exhibits, from simple wooden bases to elaborately designed blockbuster displays. They build traveling exhibits, too. Perfect for your needs. Tell them Joe Popp sent you.

DCM are great. I have used them numerous times at the Noguchi Museum. I would also like to throw out a company called "Southside Designs" based in Green Point, Brooklyn.
