POS and CRM's

We are looking to replace our POS system. Ideally this system is the same as a CRM/ donor database software. My ideal situation is to pull up a record and see donor, class, event and store purchase history. We have not found one yet that also handles inventory.  What does your museum use for both and what can you share about them?   Also, if anyone has used Salesforce for nonprofits, I would like to hear from you!

We are also looking at POS and CRM solutions.  We currently use Gateway/Galaxy and Raiders Edge.  And Salesforce for B2B sales (e.g.  facility rentals, tourism, etc.).  Would love an all in one that included store sales, although our store is managed by a 3rd party, Event Network (they were pitching a data service that merged with internal systems a while back).  Love to hear from folks that have gone through a POS/CRM RFP and integration recently.

We are also looking into this.  Supposedly Tessetura accomplishes a lot of what we and others are looking for - but we haven't had the chance to fully review it.  We use Convio (Luminate/Blackbaud) for email, Membership, and online donation, Galaxy for Ticketing, and Raisers Edge.  Through various searches it seems there isn't a product out there that I have seen yet - that out of the box really accomplishes everything that many museums want.

Its a very important product that so far seems to allude our industry for a one stop shop.  I will say that Convio does offer membership sales, and I think there is an add on for tickets - but cant remember.  Their support teams and Customer Service people are really great, and that makes a huge difference when navigating the many ways we attempt to work around their preexisting systems.

Curious to hear what others have to say!

We just recently made the switch to Blackbaud's Altru. We are still in the implementation phase, but when shopping for a system that would handle our donor information and store information/POS, plus allow for online sales and track everything together- this seemed to us the best solution.

We've recently implemented TAM for the front lines including Visitor Services, our coffee shop and café as well as our store.  Our membership and development departments use Raiser's Edge and the finance department uses Blackbaud and TAM does have some sort of integration with them.  I know there were a few issues that needed to be worked out, but we just had an upgrade yesterday that hopefully worked out a most if not all of them.

FYI - POS Highway is an associate member of AAM that provides NCR specialty retail solutions.  NCR's Counterpoint retail management software includes CRMS, inventory management, point-of-sale & purchasing.  We also have a bi-directional integration between Counterpoint and Raiser's Edge, as well as Outbound's Online Reservations System.

Our approach is significantly different then that of your original request, since there is no "best in class" all-in-one solutions, we deliver a "best in class" integrated solution used widely throughout the museums industry.  If you are interested in learning more about our company, clients & solution, please call me at (757) 650-3349?

We are in the process of implementing TAM for ticketing, rentals and membership.  We wound up choosing it over Centaman because of feature sets and price.  We are and have been using TAM for POS retail and are adding the other modules to our license.

Issues we are seeing include a lack of flexibility with data migration of membership and customer data from TM Vista and DonorPerfect (we are still working on our end at this time and are still not exactly sure what the completed migration will look like).

Our thoughts were to try to find a single solution, and as already mentioned in this thread, there really is not much out there that offers a full feature set and is reasonably priced.

TAM is great. It is very user friendly and it can handle everything you are describing. They also have a great tech support system while learning the system and troubleshooting any issues. We use it both for our Museum Store and for Visitor Services.

We too are looking at a POS/CRM conversion this year and also are having the same difficulties mentioned about finding a comprehensive solution. We've had demos with TAM and Blackbaud Altru which both had some robust features, but couldn't encompass everything we are trying to create solutions for with data. We are currently using Raiser's Edge for our development team, Patron's Edge for Admissions, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains for the Museum Store and accounting as well as a completely different platform for online store and donation transactions. It's been a challenge trying to meet the expectations, but this discussion puts me at ease that it's not just us havnig this difficulty.

We at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis are just wrapping up phase 1 of an 18 month CRM project.  We had siloed Blackbaud products (Raiser's Edge for Development and Patron Edge for ticketing, membership, school programs, etc.).  After an exhaustive search process, we settled on Salesforce as our CRM solution, Siriusware for front of house, and NGO Connect for development.  Siriusware has been up and running successfully since last spring.  In general, we are pleased with it, but its functionality is more limited than PE.  The journey has not been without its bumps, but we are weeks away from integration of the two systems.  Next, we will integrate our museum store, which we run in-house and currently uses TAM.  We are lucky to have a very talented in-house IT team who has done a great deal of the work themselves, but we also have used several consultants.  I am not the expert on the technical issues we have encountered, but would be happy to relate any specific questions folks might have to our team.

    Hello,

We currently use an integrated Salesforce/SW solution for our CRM. The accounting system is Financial Edge.

On this and other business management related topics, our  Finance Team is open to networking with our counterparts on other museum finance/business management teams.
