    WANTED: Human Rights Exhibition Proposals

    The Human Rights Institute Gallery at Kean University has a fabulous 2000 square foot art gallery featuring shows that highlight universal issues related to human rights violations and victories around the world. Subject matter may range from woman’s rights, incarceration, human trafficking, civil rights, genocide etc. Inspiring group and solo exhibition proposals are being considered. University programming will interface with all HRI shows.     Current Human Rights exhibitions include:

    Ahmed "Kathy" Kathrada: A South African Activist for Non-Racialism and Democracy 
    Conscience of the Human Spirit: The Life of Nelson Mandela 
    Dear Mr. Mandela....Dear Mrs. Parks: Children's Letters, Global Lessons
    Images of Human Rights: South African Prints
    The International Print Portfolio: Artists’ Expressions of Universal Human Rights
    Quilts and Human Rights 
    Siyazama: Traditional Arts, Education, and AIDS in South Africa

    Four MSU Museum staff, myself included, have written a book on Quilts and Human Rights that will be issued by University of Nebraska Press in 2016.  We are also currently working with the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation on a bi-national(U.S. and South Africa) exhibition of quilts in tribute to the peace and social justice activities of Desmond and Leah Tutu.
