custom object mounts for exhibits

    Good Afternoon All!

For an upcoming fall exhibition, we need custom mounts made for a marble bust and a few other objects. As there's no one in Middle Tennessee, I'm looking for recommendations closer than my colleagues in Boston and Washington, DC.  I'm curious about who you use?  What advice can you share?

    Thanks,

    Mary Anne

I would be glad to help, but I'm a lot further from you than your Boston and D.C. colleagues.  (I am in Seattle.)  I fabricate custom mounting/display armatures (usually for fossils, which are heavy, fragile, oddly/specifically shaped, and irreplaceable).  Depending on the nature of the object, there can sometimes be ways around the distance and shipping issues.  If you would like to have some discussion, I'll be happy to speak with you.

         Cheers,

    Michael

How about Earl Lock in Chicago?

The only contact info I found is his linked in page: linkedin.com/in/earl-lock-earl-815a395a

I think he's still teaching at the Center for Collections Care at Beloit College as well.

Exhibit fabrication companies that I have worked with in the past often have had the ability to produce custom artifact mounts. I am relatively new to TN and have not worked with fabrication companies here yet, but there are some in Nashville that might be worth contacting.

If you're still looking, Andy Talley in Chicago is excellent.  I'm happy to forward his contact info if you'd like.

    Hi, Ms. Caton.

Have you tried contacting the exhibits departments of the TN State, Science and Frist museums (or other local museums)? I'm sure between them you'd get some recommendations. Also, you might speak to Craig Dunn at 1220 Exhibits in Nashville.   http://www.1220.com/

I saw this post the other day and thought Chicago might be too far away.  But if it isn't,  my company Callahan art & Associates has been fabricating mounts for over 35 years. Callahan art & Associates Mounts.
I would be happy to send you an estimate for your project.

    Mary Ann,

Did you try 1220 Exhibits in Nashville? I'm from the Nashville area originally and I had worked with them years ago...Tn State Museum used the freelance mountmakers from Design & Production (D&P) in Virginia. Luke Minter & Luis Santana. They both live in Northern Virginia and will travel anywhere. I just saw them out in here in Seattle working for University of Washington for about a year.

Thanks Celte. I've worked with Luis before but hoped to find someone closer than DC.
