Dear colleagues: [indulgence coveted for cross-posting]
Just minutes after had I published the most recent post on the Critical Museology Miscellanea, the Canadian Museums Association Clipping Service e-mail arrived with the lead article titled "Canada's museums wrestle with history of residential schools."
Based on 2 previous posts & additional resources, the blog post today provides a link to my webinar presentation that was titled "Museum Exhibit Reconcili-ACTION on Residential Schools" offered in the Indigenous Maskwacis Cultural College Microlearning series under the auspices of the Four Nations of Maskwacis, Alberta, Canada, originally broadcast on 14 July.
The presenter, Paul C. Thistle, outlines the justification of and 'how to' ideas for working with Indigenous leadership to create museum exhibits on the history and impacts of Indian residential schools on former students (a.k.a. 'boarding schools' in USA). It answers questions arising from the presentation & also identifies several of the available travelling exhibits on the subject. Finally, by identifying very successful Canadian examples, it encourages even small museums to create their own exhibit units from local sources that can bolster borrowed displays.
