    Greetings,

    Our museum is working to make the museum entry process as contactless as possible.

    As a result, we have been discussing maps and distribution. Prior to the pandemic, all visitors received maps from our volunteers at the information desks. Currently, we have discussed eliminating all paper handouts and pointing visitors to where they can find the information online. We've also considered making maps available, but only upon request.

    Can you share what your plans are? If you've reopened, can you share what you have done? Did visitors pick up your museum maps?

    Glenstone, like many here, is opening in phases.  We recently reopened our grounds with no access to buildings.  Instead of handing out paper maps we posted stanchions outside the buildings with updated maps that contained much of the same information as our paper maps.  On the stanchion map we included a QR code so that visitors could digitally take the map with them.  As we consider our next phase we will continue to have our site map available digitally but are looking at stanchion map holders where visitors can help themselves instead of physically receiving one from our staff.  They will have to be restocked throughout the day but it does minimize person-to-person contact and promotes social distancing.

    Afternoon,

    Here at The Ringling, we've been reopened for just over a month now. We did what it sounds like Glenstone Museum did as well. Since our campus is 66 acres, and building spread out, brochures and map were a large concern of mine. We do have our paper maps out for visitors who choose to pick them up, we also created a QR code that links to our Map on our website. The visitors can use their smartphones to pull up the maps right on their own phones. We've found that it has been very effective and visitors are glad to have an alternative to paper. We have the QR Code at each Admission Station, as well as a larger one by the exit to the Visitor Pavilion.

    We have eliminated paper maps, opting instead for greater density throughout our facility of poster-size maps and additional wayfinders where we suspect they may be needed.

    Have you thought of creating a mobile app with map, list of interesting areas, audio story, transcript etc? Your visitors can download your app from the app store and then enjoy a full guided (self-guided) visit. The app will have a map with their own location (with a path to follow if you want them to follow a specific path), list of interesting areas, its audio story, and a transcript. In addition, you can have registration of the user, ability to buy tickets in the app, donate from the app etc.
