    Dear colleagues:

Apparently, AAM members ARE living in 'interesting times'!

Up front, I should say that I have an advantage on most interested parties because I was kindly granted an advance look at the proposed changes to AAM governing documents announced today due I believe to my earlier efforts to instigate change to the AAM Constitution in order to permit its members to give direction to the Board of Directors and communications with AAM staff & Board Chair.

As things currently stand, members can propose changes to the Constitution to permit the kind of expansion of AAM member rights I was recommending.  However, when you look into the proposed changes, the main purpose of the proposals now on the table is to "streamline" AAM governance--by eliminating AAM members' rights to vote. I would highly recommend that every member attend very carefully to the AAM's introductory web page above, the Q&A page, & the proposed new Articles as well as the revised Bylaws presented.  The current AAM Constitution is to be replaced by the latter document.

Once you have familiarised yourself with the content & consequences of the proposed changes, anyone interested in the results of my analysis developed over the past few days can read my " AAM Members to Lose Voting Rights?" post on the Solving Task Saturation for Museum Worker's blog.

I conclude with: "In my view, the democratic voting rights of nonprofit corporation "members" are worth preserving."

    Respectfully yours
