Existing Residential/Boarding School Exhibits in Circulation

    Dear colleagues:

I have been encouraged to find that, as a result of the original news about the 215 unmarked child graves on the grounds of a residential [a.k.a. 'boarding'] school for Indigenous children in Kamloops Canada, the new Native American Secretary of the Interior in the United States, Deb Haaland, has determined to undertake similar investigations for unrecorded burials on these properties across the U.S.A. Indeed, Haaland reports "nearly 83 percent of Native American school-age children were in the [boarding schools system (Haaland 2021).

The July 1st Indigenous Resilience Day (a.k.a. 'Canada Day') post on the Critical Museology Miscellanea blog updates the 11 June post "Reconcili-ACTION Role for Museums Covering Canada with Residential School Exhibits for our Citizens' 'Remedial Education'" provides a listing of many museum exhibitions addressing issues surrounding the histories & ongoing impacts on Indigenous peoples created & circulated to date.  It is notable that many of these exhibits were developed & circulated by small museums.

See the "Reconcili-ACTION Role for Museums UPDATE, 1 July 2021: Indigenous Resilience Day" at https://miscellaneousmuseology.wordpress.com/2021/07/01/reconcili-action-role-for-museums-update-1-july-2021-indigenous-resilience-day/ .

Thanks for thinking about these matters.

    Respectfully yours
