I wonder if there'll be any official discussion at the AAM conference about the Montpelier debacle. Given that it represents such a significant event on the landscape, culminating in a mass-firing of enormously dedicated staff, and from the outside looks like a turning back the clock to Jim Crow, it seems like a critical learning moment for the field. Is there room in the schedule to find some place for large-scale conversation with as many of the informed participants with the gumption to speak openly about it among their peers?

I think this is a great suggestion. I am wondering if we could use the "Neighborhubs" area that is part of the PN spaces for this.
The only drawback is that many colleagues who are not attending in person will be unable to participate.

The EdCom steering committee has been in email discussion this week about how best to host a productive conversation virtually. We would be open to ideas and collaboration with other PNs. We'd like to do something ASAP. while we want to make room for processing, we also want to discuss how to help/protect courageous museum workers.

Hi, everyone, putting together a program is a good idea. I noticed in some of the articles that the National Trust, which owns the site, has been very critical of the foundation's leadership. I recommend either inviting them to participate or at least having someone who can address their role in the situation. Paul Edmonson, their in-house attorney, has been their spokesperson on this. He would be a great panelist.

That’s exactly what I was hoping for. I would be shocked if anyone from the Foundation would be willing to join, but in the spirit of openness an invitation would be appropriate. Possibly even a couple of the recently former staff?

    Hi Aaron

Well, they aren't willing to speak with NPR reporters, so I suspect they won't chat with museum folks either.

Our colleagues at AAAM (Association of African American Museums) are fostering dialogue. Perhaps it might be worth reaching out to them for opportunities at AAM?

For those who wish to follow press coverage, statements of support from many organizations, and suggestions for taking action, go to the "Free Montpelier" page of Cultural Heritage Partners.

I know some of these links have been posted in other places, but this page has almost all of them in one place.
