This is a fantastic question.  Before every busy season, I spend some time updating our Policies and Procedures manual, an exercise in which I am now engaged.  I would love to see other examples, as well.  My email is pmiele@seminaryridge.org

I'm also interested in this topic.  I work for a Victorian natural history museum as the Visitor Engagement Facilitator.  I'm currently working on developing protocols for visitor orientation to the museum and I'd love to hear your ideas.

I've been looking for two years for a good visitor services training manual and/or customer service training program (power point?).  I'd love to see what other have developed.  I started one a couple of times, but don't know where to go with it.  Thank you.  I'm at: clwright@cabq.gov

    Hello Everyone,
i recently joined AAM because I was looking for a resource to help guide some major changes to programs, procedures, and definitely publications!

Is there a resource through AAM that facilitates sharing of these? Since so many of us are interested, would it be possible to use Dropbox, google docs, or some other sharing method to post  good examples for others to consider and compare in their own efforts?

I am not aware of a sharing resource like that through AAM or ASTC, but I'm fairly new and haven't explored everything. Seems like a good idea.  Thoughts?

In the meantime- Please add me to your email list for sharing. Thanks!

    Good morning.

Thank you all for your participation in the Open Forum.

Note that anyone who works at a museum with an AAM Tier 3 museum membership can access our online Sample Document Library. The library includes almost a 1000 peer reviewed samples covering everything from codes of ethics to whistleblower protection policies. While we do not currently have samples of visitor services training manuals specifically, we do have security guard manuals, and volunteer manuals - both of which have elements of visitor services manuals.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    I
have created a google file sharing folder (link above) if anyone would like to use it.  It is open to all to edit but if anyone is trying to access but having issues, let me know.  The sample library didn't really have what we are speaking about here - at least from what I could find.  If someone else has found a useful example there, please correct me.  As I create materials, I will happily put them in this folder for others' use/perusal.

A feature of Museum Junction that many people do not use is the Library. The library is populated in two ways: you can upload documents directly by using the “Upload a Document” link found in the left navigation. Alternately, when you include an attachment in a discussion post, the system automatically places it in the library. Feel free to upload your visitor services manuals to this library.

We are always reviewing and adjusting our visitor services manual, i.e. our Interpretation Specialist Manual. Our manual covers mostly the expectations of the daily work our interpreters do, as well as some basic workplace policies. I would love to see what others are doing and what your institutions find that works for you. I have posted our current version on the google drive that was created and will look into posting it in the library as well. I also attached it here to this post.

Feel free to email me with questions and/or suggestions. I am always looking for new ideas how to impress our customer service and patron first message to the front line staff.
