Apologies if this has been asked before, but a cursory search did not turn up an answer: can anyone recommend ways to market free traveling exhibits to regional venues? In the past, we have created traveling exhibits tailored for libraries, small galleries in colleges and universities, historical societies, and assorted other venues including welcome centers. Now that several of these exhibits have run their course, we would like to find them new "homes"-- does anyone have any recommended strategies?

Having been involved with a couple of museums that marketed small traveling exhibits, I would say that everyone who had any interest probably already hosted the exhibit.  If you feel that it might have later use for your own institution - in five years you may have a whole new crop of potential visitors - you might put them in long-term storage and bring them back out in a few years.  This might apply to only one or two of your exhibits, though.

I would recommend contacting the regional museum associations - they could potentially have ways to get the word out to their institutions.

the larger group TEN, Traveling Exhibits Network could be of help as well.

We have rehomed several of our exhibits in the community...public library, universities, Jewish temple, and community resource center for returning veterans.  I am happy to talk if you still need input.

Certainly different to find a venue that wants your exhibit permanently. Maybe marketing is not the best approach. I'd look for institution that includes your topic as part of their mission and call them. Maybe The Henry Ford or the Ford Estates here in Michigan?
